A new product competition—said to be the first of its kind in Canada—will celebrate and reward the best performing “clean” makeup and personal care products. The Clean Beauty Awards are strategically designed to showcase products that are, in the competition’s words “crap-free.” In order to be considered for this award, products must be void of a specified list of potentially harmful chemicals including (but not limited to): parabens, triclosan, parfum/fragrances, sodium lauryl sulfate, and siloxanes.

According to the organizers of Clean Care, navigating the drugstore aisles to find beauty and body care products free of harmful ingredients is challenging, especially with misleading labels like “green,” “eco,” “natural” and/or “organic.” It is even more challenging to find products that can provide flawless coverage, protect, clean, moisturize the body and hair—leaving you radiantly healthy, without all the toxic crap.”

Jenise Lee, founder of Clean Care, says, “As shoppers, before we consider switching brands, we want to know that the recommended products work. Not only is the Clean Beauty Awards about taking the ‘guesswork’ out of label reading, it is also about ceasing the hesitation faced by shoppers to try new products.”

A mixed panel of judges includes beauty experts to eco experts to consumers. “Clean” beauty categories include: Makeup, Skincare, Skin Wash, Hair Care, as well as Suncare, Nail Color and Odor Care.

The Winners will be announced in September of 2014.
